Yuma, Arizona – May 16, 2007 -- Arizona Western College is proud to announce that AWC baseball player Tyler Shaddy has signed his letter of intent to attend Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, and Tyler Moyneur has signed his letter of intent to attend Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee.
The announcement comes just two days before AWC Commencement ceremonies on the AWC Campus.
Moyneur has had a lot of choices to make about his future ever since he broke into the Matadors’ starting lineup midway through his freshman season. Moyneur-who was born in San Diego and raised just north of there in Escondido, California-went from part-time player to key everyday offensive and defensive cog in early March of 2005. Despite playing just 36 of the Matadors’ 58 games during his freshman season, Moyneur quickly gained the respect of the conference coaches, mainly by throwing out an astounding 52% of opponents’ base stealers defensively as a catcher, and hitting .346 at the plate, earning 2nd Team All-ACCAC honors. Moyneur also gained the respect of major league scouts during the Mats’ last two months of the season, and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 2006 MLB Draft. Shaddy is a great example of a student-athlete who continually showed great progress as he worked his way through the ranks as a Matador. Shaddy graduated from Kofa High School after starting for the Kings for 2 seasons, and decided to stay home and attend Arizona Western College for his first 2 years as a collegian. As a freshman, Shaddy was penciled into the Matadors’ veteran rotation as the #3 starter for 2006. Shaddy responded well, winning his first 4 decisions of the season, and winding up the season with a 5-3 record and a 3.75 earned run average. Shaddy also was a starter during the Matadors’ playoff run. |
