Yuma, Arizona – Arizona Western College will host the 2nd Annual Wells Fargo Holiday Basketball Classic this coming Friday and Saturday, January 5th and 6th, 2007, at ‘The House’ on the AWC campus.
The two-day event that will feature four top men’s basketball programs from three different states including the 2-time defending Region I Division I Champion AWC Matadors. Three of the teams are nationally ranked as they enter tournament play: 7th-ranked Phoenix College, the defending Region I Division II Champions who made it to the Final Four of the NJCAA Division II Tournament last season; 8th-ranked Odessa College, who made it to the Region V Tournament in Texas in Dennis Helms’ first year back as head coach; and the 5th-ranked hosts, the AWC Matadors, plus Carl Albert State College, who are perennially one of Oklahoma’s most competitive men’s basketball programs. “This promises to be an amazing two days of basketball, and we’re thrilled to offer our fans a chance to see national tournament-caliber teams play against each other at our place,” remarked AWC Athletic Director Jerry Smith. “We couldn’t have done it without the generous support of Wells Fargo Bank, and we’re so pleased to be able to partner up with them for another year of great basketball.” |
