(SNSW) Yuma, Arizona - Arizona Western College has announced that the 2007 AWC Soccer schedule has been released. The team that has hosted playoff games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in the history of the program will host nine Matador home games and nine road games as part of the 18-game regular season schedule. The schedule was released just 26 days before the start of preseason soccer camp.

The Mats’ schedule begins with two straight road games as the Mats travel to the Phoenix area twice for contests against Glendale on Saturday, August 25th before getting their first chance at revenge against the team that eliminated AWC from last year’s Region I Playoffs, the Mesa Thunderbirds, on August 29th. The Mats then return to Yuma for their home opener Saturday, September 1st against Chandler-Gilbert, and then will host Pima on September 5th. That’s the last chance the home fans will have to see the Matadors for 17 days as AWC gets four tough conference road games in a row: South Mountain (September 8th), 7-time defending Region I Champion Yavapai (September 12th), Paradise Valley (September 15th) and Scottsdale (September 19th). After that, the schedule gets much more fan-friendly as the Mats will host two long homestands, one lasting three games (Phoenix September 22nd, Glendale September 25th and Mesa September 29th); and one lasting four games (South Mountain October 8th, Yavapai October 10th, Paradise Valley October 13th and the regular season home finale against Scottsdale October 17th). The Mats finish out the regular season on the road at Hoy Field October 20th against Phoenix College. All home games will be played at the AWC Soccer Field on the AWC campus, and will kick off at 6PM. Admission to all regular season home soccer games is FREE.

The Matadors will try to make their 3rd straight appearance in the Region I Playoffs, which will begin October 23rd at sites and times to be determined. The Matadors finished the regular season in 3rd place in the ACCAC with a 13-6 record overall and a 12-6 conference mark-the most conference wins ever by an AWC Soccer squad. The marks were good enough to earn the Matadors the 3rd seed in the 2005 Region I Playoffs and the right to host a playoff game for the second time in as many seasons.
