The Lady Matadors’ cumulative grade point average of 3.24 ranked 8^th among the top NFCA Softball teams on the community college level (Iowa Western’s 3.459 was 1^st).  “It’s a great honor, and the athletes certainly have to take credit for what they did,” remarked a proud Pam Stone, AWC’s Head Softball Coach.  “The ability for them to stay focused on why they’re here, and still be able to make it to the Region I Playoffs just shows their dedication and their ability to prioritize.”

Meanwhile, because their individual good grades, Ackerman, Fogg, Galanek and Stratton were all honored as NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes for the 2005-06 academic year.  It’s the second academic award that Fogg has earned-following the NJCAA Academic All-American honor she received this past summer.  Ackerman is now studying at the University of Illinois-Chicago (and playing center field for the Flames’ softball team), while Fogg will be attending the University of Arizona this coming spring.  Both Galanek and Stratton have returned for their sophomore seasons at AWC, and are expected to be big contributors to the Lady Matadors’ softball successes this coming spring.  The Lady Matadors’ 2007 softball season commences January 27^th in Thatcher against Odessa Community College.
